Volunteer Spotlight - Madeline Adams

Madeline Adams began her journey with Japan during 2000-2002 on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program in Haramachi-shi (now Minamisoma), Fukushima. Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, the lifestyle in the countryside was eye-opening and refreshing, and allowed her to learn Japanese during her two years there. Madeline also enjoyed learning more about Japanese culture and took advantage of the countryside by setting up her paints on the side of the road or rice fields, sketching on her travels throughout the country.

Madeline's journey took her to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, leading tours for school groups and receiving an M.F.A in painting and to the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, developing and running programs for youth and families. Today, she brings her passion for education and the community to Homework Hotline, a non-profit that provides free tutoring for TN students over the telephone and online, as the assistant director.

Madeline has been on the Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival Planning Committee for four years and Master of Ceremonies. She recently joined us at the Memphis Japan Festival as Master of Ceremonies (picture above) and looks forward to a continued relationship with JAST!
